Do I have a say about Christmas day?

Do I have a say about Christmas day?

My client asked me this yesterday.

She seemed to think that because she's a stepmum with no children of her own, she has no say in anything that is happening over the festive period.

Let's make this very clear.

Just because you’re a stepparent with no children of your own, does not mean you can’t express your opinion and have your feelings and wishes valued by your family and your partner.

Everyone in the family has a right to be heard.

There is so much to arrange and prepare for when Christmas day is approaching.

If like my client you feel that you are not being listened too or you’re worried about speaking up, I suggest you arrange with your partner a sit down chat just between the two of you to express how you feel. Sometimes our partners don’t even realise that we are feeling this way and carry on as normal.

Stand strong and make yourself heard. Never feel a stepparent is any different to a biological parent. Obviously if the children are not yours then you discuss with your partner any issues that you feel need addressing.

Stay positive and have a wonderful Christmas.
